Due to the devastating fire that occurred last August in Madeira’s Central Massif, the original course had to be altered. Parts of the original route passed through the burned areas, which are now closed due to the risk of falling rocks. These areas currently have no confirmed reopening date.
The MIUT 115 race will start at 12:00 a.m. on April 26, 2025 (midnight between the 25th and 26th), from the center of Porto Moniz. The initial section takes runners through winding footpaths and levadas along the North Coast during the night, heading towards the Paúl da Serra plateau in the Western mountain massif. The first major ascent leads to the iconic Fanal, followed by a direct route to Estanquinhos, bypassing the descent to Chão da Ribeira.
The next segment takes runners through São Vicente before they follow the road to Ponta Delgada—the only feasible alternative for this part of the race. From Ponta Delgada, the route returns to trails, passing through Boaventura, São Jorge, and Ilha. After Ilha, runners will head towards Pico Ruivo. Without reaching the summit, they will veer left to descend toward Pico das Pedras, passing Achada do Teixeira along the way.
From Pico das Pedras, the course continues to Cruzinhas, then ascends to Ribeiro Frio and Chão das Feiteiras. The final stretch is primarily downhill, with passages through Portela and the scenic Larano footpath, connecting to the levada of Caniçal via Boca do Risco. The race concludes with a section along a levada leading to Machico, where the finish line awaits at Forum Machico.
